Best TV Shows Ever

It's a tradition for the lab staff to make lists of our favorite things. We've listed our favorite candy, favorite songs, our high scores for various video games, and more. This time the summer lab staff (Jesse, Sarah, Dave, Chase, and Jonah) have listed their favorite TV shows. If it's already been erased by the time you're seeing this, here's a photo of the lists:

Not everyone agrees with our choices (I've already received one complaint that not a single person included "Pee Wee's Playhouse") but we stand by them.

The Last Photo I will Ever Take of Rico and Chase

Not that I've taken all that many to begin with, but now that Rico has moved away, there are unlikely to be any more. I'm glad it turned out so well.

Penn's Stepping Up

Development and Alumni Relations created this video called "Penn Stepping Up," featuring our own Chase Irwin and the Pennyloafers (and I saw some footage in there of former lab consultant Neal Behr, too!) Check out it:

Former lab consultants create iPhone game!

Former lab consultants Michael Highland and Keith McKnight are working on an iPhone game called Hipster City Cycle, to be released later this year.

They were featured this week in the Daily Pennsylvanian ("Alumni's iPhone game explores the Phila. streets") and in Philly tech blog Technically Philly ("Shop Talk: The DIY game-makers of Port127")

Here's a screenshot of the game (I love Keith's pixel art. You may have noticed we have a cover of 34th Street magazine he created hanging on the bulletin board in the lab):

Most importantly (I'm totally burying the lead here, I know), they're having a contest where you can submit your photo and they'll turn you into a pixel person (see below for examples) and you could end up in the game itself! (I already submitted my photo. Wish me luck!) Check out the details at http://www.hipstercitycycle.com/pixelateme/ And most importantly, make sure you buy the game when it comes out. You can be sure we'll announce it here when the game hits the app store in the Fall.

Nick Joins Tabard?

Not sure if this means he's a sister now or not, but kudos on the hair, Nick!

Gosh, I just love our lab consultants!

Events at Penn

The DP launched their new campus events calendar service this week, "Events at Penn" (http://eventsatpenn.com) It's a clean, clear, simple interface, and anybody with a upenn email address can add an event. Perhaps the best part of all is that it was entirely created--from scratch--by our very own lab consultant, David Lei. Give the new system a try, find out what's going on, post your own events, and let David and the DP know what you think of the new system.

Happy Valentine's Day

Our own Rico Moorer, President of UTv, filmed this Valentine's Day video and then cut it together here in the lab. Enjoy. And happy V-Day to you, too.

Penny Loafers Show this Weekend

Come see our very own Chase Irwin perform in the Penny Loafers show (Penn's co-ed modern rock/pop/indie a cappella group) this weekend. The show is named (in a timely way) "Stimulus Package". I'm told Chase even has a solo or two. Tickets available on the walk this week, or at the door the night of the concert.

Car-struck

Our very own Nick was hit by a car this afternoon on his way to work. (see artist's depiction, complete with sound effects.) He's alive and seems to be ok. Or at least as OK as Nick ever seems. If you see him, please give him your sympathy.

We do it just a little bit better

Our lab consultant, Jesse H., just got a new tattoo:

No, you're not seeing things. Yes, that's the old Wawa logo. No, he wasn't drunk when he got it. Yes, if you ask him, he'll show it to you.

34th Street Cover

Our very own Keith McKnight created the cover for this week's 34th Street insert in the Daily Pennsylvanian. Keith made it in Photoshop, right here in the Digital Media Lab. Congrats, Keith!

We have the issue of 34th street, along with an enlargement of the image, hanging on our bulletin board for those of you who'd like to take a closer look.

UNFIT WASHRAG MAN

That's an anagram for "Fun with Anagrams." I came in this morning and discovered that some unnamed person had written the names of several lab consultants on the white board and rearranged them to form more...interesting words.

As you can see, in at least some of these cases, the anagrams appear to form an accurate description of the lab consultant:

Alexander J. Meyer ==> Relaxed Jar Enemy
Nick Salvatore ==> Venal Art Sicko
Jesse A. Harding ==> Jihads Enrages
Robert Keith McKnight ==>Herb Trick Ghetto Mink

Here's a photo (click for full-size):
